Very cool designs at Logo Instant
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009I don’t recall where I found this, but Logo Instant looks pretty cool.
I don’t recall where I found this, but Logo Instant looks pretty cool.
I mentioned some portable applications the other day. Here’s some more.
Tiny Apps — Not so much portable, but definitely small. And most are portable by sheer virtue.
PHP:
There are numerous PHP design pattern sites but none express it like IBM’s Five common PHP design patterns and Five more PHP design patterns.
Probably THE best PHP Design Patterns listing is at Fluffy Cat.
PHP Patterns is somewhat defunct but usable.
.NET and Related Technologies:
Design Patterns in C# and VB.NET
Some solid examples of Singleton, Factory, and Observer over at Java2s.
Testing:
Equally important to all of these architectural and design patterns are testing patterns. So… xUnit Patterns.
Developmental Patterns:
Although there are NUMEROUS developer blogs and article repositories I feel some that stand out are:
NOOP.NL which also hosts the “Top 100 Blogs for Developers” which I’ve mentioned before I think.
Patterns by Sample:
I still find sites like Programmer’s Heaven and Planet Source Code indispensable for patterns and sample code.
I’ve been searching for an application I found years ago that was able to synchronize folders locally and remotely (FTP), but I simply cannot find it. It was very unique, I recall, just not recalling it well enough to find it by its features. Anyway, in my search I’ve found these:
WinSCP, probably the best choice, has the ability to synchronize an FTP.
FileZilla is another open source alternative that I simply don’t like.
Here’s an article on found on the Novell site: AppNote: Using RSYNC with Windows.
Additional Mention:
FileWare (dot com) has a few solid applications.
nnSoft has the wonderful nnCron Lite which should not be missed.
NirSoft is filled with a ridiculous amount of awesome in-house freeware.
IRNIS hosts a slew of free goodies including XCSC, XCSV, and XFFF. Sorry, check there for the non-acronym versions.
Xtort is the host of Tiny USB Office (formerly Floppy Office). It is simply a combination of several awesome little utilities though.
Horst Schaeffer’s Widows Pages carries several lovelies like “Reminder.”
HFS (HTTP File Server)
AutoMen which is actually found at 64K.it but this post describes it better. This is a front-end for Mencoder.
CrispyBytes Development is home to two useful utilities: DateInTray and Clear Read-Only.
SDCC – Small Device C Compiler. For those mobile programmers out there.
Windows Vista Freeware Utilities List takes a special notice for a compilation of software that is “tiny, installation-free, portable, and freeware.”
Eolsoft sports one of the best software I’ve ever had on older systems: Winmail Opener which helps you crack open those pesky DAT files.
Fantastic Bits has loads of unique freeware. (Site in German.)
The next three are mail servers:
AXIGEN’s Office Edition is a simple Free Mail Server.
I think I’m digging hMailServer best.
Additional Mention:
Ardamax (dot com) has three extremely useful utilities.
I’m throwing together an application that performs a variety of text conversions so I figured I’d compile a list of HTML entities and special characters as well. I’m sure some of these lists overlap but I kept noticing that some didn’t contain everything. *shrugs*
HTML Special Characters and Character entity references.
I’ve personally used Hash and CD for years. I love the software here.
I ran across an old link where someone mentioned this was a register only product but the download links are here.
Additional Links:
The REALLY old link.
Jans Freeware Articles — I didn’t even know this was still active! Used to be one of my favorite sites until I gave up on Windows 95 and 98.

WordPress.
Visualisation is taken care by Maryndor with his WPGlass theme.
