3D in Flash

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Apparently it’s not that new, but Flash Player 10 and Flash CS4 support 3D or what some are calling “2.5D.”

Z-sorting 3D DisplayObjects for Flash Player 10

Of course there are numerous others like PaperVision and Swift 3D, but this centralizes it in homebase so to speak.

This one was very interesting. It’s actually in the comments from the first link.

I cannot think of a single time where Ask Apache didn’t come through with something really useful. This time? Preload and cache your FLVs.

Straight from the horse’s mouth: Adobe – Flash CS3 resources

OK, some from Yahoo! as well.

Papervision3D Components for Flash

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I’m going to try to maintain this post with cool Papervision3D components I find.  In the meantime I’ll be looking for more tutorials for working with Papervision3D within Flash as opposed to Flex.

So for starters:

John Grden’s New Papervision3D Components!

Additional Articles:

Introduction to Papervision from Computer Arts

Additional Mentions of RockOnFlash’s release.

DrawLogic – http://drawlogic.com/2007/06/28/papervision3d-flash-cs3-components-released/

Sephiroth – http://www.sephiroth.it/weblog/archives/2007/06/papervision3d_component_for_flash_cs3.php

Additional Note:

I don’t think anyone is going to beat this awesome addition to the Flash IDE component-wise, so I’m on the hunt for good tutorials as of now.

Flex development without a significant investment

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Of course, time is always an investment but…

FlashDevelop is an open source editor primarily geared at ActionScript and as a by-product Flex development.

Mix that with the freely available Flex 3 SDK and you can begin developing cutting-edge RIAs in a Flash… er… flash.  No pun intended.

Papervision3D Tutorials — This site serves its purpose of being a righteous little pit stop for Papervision3D, Flex and Flash development.

Dusan Writer on Papervision — I haven’t really looked all through this expansive one page of Papervision but it looks semi-promising (as a page of links to other valid resources).

Awesome time-lapse video of a Flash fish animation

A fantastic video from Brad Fitzpatrick of him illustrating an NH Magazine spot.

I really want to do more Flash work.  Although to be honest, the fact Brad is an awesome artist plays about 85 to 90% on the outcome.
