Personal Address Book and Outlook Contacts

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I’m not entirely sure how much of this applies to 2007 but this article was very useful in merging Outlook 2000 and 2002 PABs and OCs.

The University of Leicester has a bit of information on the Global Address List as it pertains to 2007 — which is why I believe the above link doesn’t pertain to 2007.

The Global Address List in 2007 automatically populates your PAB with your OCs.

One-Way OneNote Synchronization Workaround

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

OK, so my bright idea was to go into OneNote (Desktop) and “Save As…” to another location outside of the:

%homepath%\Documents\OneNote Notebooks

…directory.  Bear in mind, moving this will not accomplish the same thing as OneNote (Desktop) will track where you moved it and of course you also cannot save anywhere within that directory or OneNote (Desktop) will find them and promptly remove them once deleted from the device.

I put my newly synchronized mobile OneNotes into:

%homepath%\Documents\OneNote Notebooks - NoSync

…I know, super-genius creativity is hard to even grasp with a normal human mind — I forgive you.

NOTE:

Re-verify all of the above actions as I found what I believe to be an unrelated option that shouldn’t have affected anything but who knows… ?

OneNote Synchronization Issues

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

In search of how to one-way synchronize with OneNote and OneNote Mobile I ran across this:

OneNote Testing

…which led me to “Making pages easier to sync with a mobile device.

And of course, neither really help me.  In fact, I wish I had this guy’s problem.

In case anyone can help I’d like to synchronize my OneNote Mobile to OneNote (Desktop) and NEVER back to the mobile.  That is, if I synchronize, I want to delete the notes from OneNote Mobile and have OneNote (Desktop) not try to put them back again.

It takes a ridiculous amount of time to synchronize 30 to 40 megabytes of OneNote Mobile notes and it’s especially frustrating when OneNote (Desktop) tries to put it right back.

EDIT:

Apparently I would have loved OneNote a few years ago.

Cannot sync Outlook 2007 notes with HTC-Touch Windows Mobile 6 (Vista Home Premium with WMDC)” — this particular link offers up several things of interest to me:

  1. Vista Ultimate supposedly fixes the problem.
  2. Turning of ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the mobile device (and the computer?) supposedly fixes the problem.
  3. “Apparently if you have a mix of Outlook and SIM contacts on your HTC then the sync dosn’t sync any contacts.  Once I removed my SIM contacts from my HTC the sync worked for all of my Outlook contacts.  This is clearly a microsoft bug.”

OK, so, um… how do I remove the “SIM contacts?”  This has relevance because I’m almost positive I’ve “lost” a contact or two.  Not to mention I’ve always wondered why my Outlook address book has maybe 15 – 20 addresses in it, but out of my 400+ contacts at least half of them have e-mail information.  *shrugs*

Yet another edit:

Why is it that this seems to be so damned elusive?

re synchronization of one note mobile” — more nothing but ideas.

Synchronizing OneNote 2007 and WSS 3.0 — I don’t even know what “WSS” is but I’m getting desperate to link some clues together here.

If I could just verify that it is NOT possible I’d be fine.

OneNote and Synchronizing

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

I wonder first off what it takes to enable the OneNote synchronization options in Windows Mobile Device Center?

While searching I ran across this, which helps quite a bit.  My problem is every time I sync all the OneNote Mobile notes that I’ve deleted from my device get repopulated back into it.  Which sucks when you consider it has to load ALL that information back on your device and the fact that OneNote Mobile only allows you to save OneNotes onto the “main memory” of your Windows Mobile device.

So things can get cluttered quick and with any disk-based storage causes wear and tear.

Cannot move an image in Word

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Try right-clicking on the image and choosing “Image Format.”

For my wife (Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6020.5000)) you then clicked the “Layout” tab and have to choose something different than “In Line with Text.”

In my copy (Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.6331.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)) I could not do that at all.  Although I noticed several things:

  • You can right-click the image and choose “Text Wrapping” then choose something different than “In Line with Text.”
  • You can select the image and then your “Picture Tools” tab should be available with one sub-category called “Format.”  In that area you can choose the “Position” button which lets you select from text wrapping and layout options (again select something other than “In Line with Text.”)
  • You can alternatively hit the “Text Wrapping” button (instead of the “Position” button) and quickly choose a different text wrap option.
  • And finally right-clicking and choosing “Format Picture” does not offer me ANYTHING useful in correct text wrapping or layout.
