Avoid Sprint’s new “Picture Mail” application Smart Devices

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

This includes any smart phone or Pocket PC.  DO NOT download the new picture mail application as it has numerous bugs and apparently takes an unreasonable amount of time to send a picture.  It apparently screws up your synchronization settings.

There are several options available one of which is sMMS Picture Mail Composer. (Alternate link)

The trick that I use (and will continue to use) is sending a vanilla e-mail to the picture mail address with a picture attached.

Works like a charm.

How about an Andy Warhol?

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I found a few Andy Warhol-esque tutorials while searching for good information on HDR (of which there is not much).

Photoshop Tutorial: How to Create Andy Warhol Inspired Pop Art

Andy-Warhol-Up Your Photographs

Only because this next one is free I won’t bother to say how much it sucks.

Photoshop Serigraphs — remember though the only thing wrong with this technique (in my opinion) is that it is limited by the artist — which could be you.

HDR, RAW and SLR are not dependent on each other

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Here is that “fake HDR” link that was down for the longest time.  This link has a plugin you can purchase as well, but first it offers the entire step-by-step process.

Here is someone’s attempt at the first link.  Make sure to click the images so you can see the higher resolution ones — the smaller ones are horrible.

Here is a custom script for The GIMP that fakes HDR.  The script was based off of this article
I must say some of the images from the article are horrid so I’d
recommend some hue and saturation reduction if your images appear too
red (or magenta).

HDR with or without RAW capability or expensive SLRs

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I’ll definitely have more on this in the near future, but HDR or High dynamic range imaging can yield very interesting results.  The thing is my graphics buddy is stuck thinking you can only create HDR images with expensive digital SLRs that can process RAW — whatever that means.

I mean, a camera can output RAW and you process those RAW images in software. So um…

Here’s a Wikipedia link for now.
